Position:  Bookkeeper/Office Manager
The California Association of Winegrape Growers (CAWG) is seeking a bookkeeper/office manager to join the association’s team. This is a full-time, salaried position that reports to the President.

Organization
The California Association of Winegrape Growers (CAWG) is a statewide trade association that protects and promotes the interests of California winegrape growers. CAWG promotes the winegrowing industry’s long-term success by advancing the adoption of sound public policies and fostering awareness and understanding of winegrape growers’ contributions to the economy, environment, and California communities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Bookkeeper/Office Manager is responsible for assisting with a variety of routine and non-routine bookkeeping, accounting, human resources, and office related activities, including:

  • Develop annual budget, monitor, and forecast budget actuals throughout the year.

  • Coordinate with the association’s independent CPA to complete annual tax return and audit/review.

  • Maintain staff records including salary, benefit programs, sick/vacation accruals/use, 401K contributions and all related matters.

  • Work with third party payroll provider to process and distribute payroll.

  • Act as liaison for the CAWG 401k MEP program.

  • Work with the associations Political Action Committee (PAC) and CPA/legal consultant to make PAC payments, maintain PAC balances and prepare quarterly Lobby reports.

  • Oversee CAWG Foundation accounting and scholarship activities, which includes basic accounting, annual scholarship program, board meetings and coordination of tax return and review by independent CPA.

  • Ensure proper FPPC and FEC reporting requirements are met.

  • Manage incoming calls and represent the association to its membership and the public in a professional manner.

  • Handle the ordering of office supplies, office equipment maintenance, and general office organization.

  • Assist with onsite staffing for special events, such as regional meetings and the Unified Wine & Grape Symposium and CAWG Foundation fundraisers.

 

Required Experience, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or proven career experience.

  • Strong experience in all aspects of GAAP accounting with AP/AR experience.

  • Knowledge and experience using Quickbooks Desktop.

  • Practical experience in preparing and managing budgets.

  • Background in general human resource management with the ability to handle confidential matters with discretion.

  • Proficient in the Microsoft suite specifically: Excel, word, and Power Point. Knowledge of association management database software, preferably iMIS a bonus.

  • Strong problem solving, research and analytical skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, effectively manage time and prioritize projects to meet established deadlines and support daily operation.

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a very fast paced environment with competing priorities.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with members, stakeholders, and external partners.

  • Background and understanding of the purpose and operation of trade associations is desired.

  • Knowledge of agriculture or wine industry experience is desirable, but not necessary.

This is a full-time position, salary DOE, with a potential range of $45,000 - $60,000. Benefits include medical, dental, vision insurance and long-term disability insurance, 401(k) with a 4% safe harbor match, plus paid holiday, vacation, and sick time. CAWG also provides travel reimbursement, as this position has occasional traveling throughout California winegape regions. This position is based in Sacramento, CA, with the potential of being hybrid with flexible scheduling.
